Spiritual Gifts

First Corinthians 12 begins a discussion of Spiritual Gifts. As I was teaching the last series for the teaching ministry, the Lord prompted me to bring forward a lesson on the gifts of the Spirit. These lessons will start on the radio ministry on this coming Wed at noon EST, iheart radio, Heaven 1410AM.

There are gifts of the Spirit, fruit of the spirit and ministry gifts given to the church. Sometimes it’s easy to get these confused. Fruit of the spirit are referred to in Galatians 5:22. Fruit have to be developed, so these fruit are fruit of your recreated human spirit that as you grow in God they develop and can be shared. I believe that when someone gets saved, the seeds or the substance of those fruit come to dwell in the believer. It’s up to you as a believer to develop those fruit. It’s up to you to show kindness, goodness, faithfulness, etc. Because you are saved, you have the ability to do those things. It is an enablement that comes with salvation. Ministry gifts are discussed in Ephesians 4:11. These are gifts that Christ left the church so that we may be edified and to help us grow in the things of God. Ministry gifts include apostles, prophets, teachers, pastors, and evangelists.  Some may just have one gift and some may walk in more than one.

The lessons that I am starting are on the gifts of the Holy Spirit. These are the 9 gifts that are discussed in I Corinthians 12. They can be divided into three different groupings, Power gifts, Vocal gifts and Revelation gifts. Paul sets the stage for these gifts by teaching us that these gifts are special abilities or endowments that are GIVEN by the Holy Spirit as He wills. Paul goes on to tell us that he does not want us to be ignorant of the gifts. That means that a born again believer can be ignorant of the gifts. The fact that God does not want us ignorant of these things lets us know that He wants the gifts in operation in the life of the believer. They are as the Holy Spirit wills, but we are to be aware of and covet these gifts.
