We all have that family member or friend that we hope would receive Salvation. We pray for them and we ask God to send someone by who would share the Gospel in a way that they would receive it. Many times we try to share with them the principles of God before they receive salvation. We want them to line up with the Word of God and understand the Word of God when they do not have the foundation to understand the principles of God.

Let’s look at the scripture 2 Corinthians 3 – 5. We learn from these verses that the devil (the god of this world) has blinded the eyes of those who believe not so that they CANNOT understand the things of God. Understanding the Bible hinges on salvation. In other words you have to be a child of God to even begin to understand the things of God. That is why we shouldn’t try to chastise our friends and family with the Word when they are not saved. The first thing that we should do is preach Christ to them according to Romans 10:9-10. Once they receive Jesus, they will then have the foundation to begin to understand and grow in the things of God.

CANNOT is a strong word. We see here that means the enemy does have some power, but his power is over those who BELIEVE NOT. There has to be a rejection of the Gospel for your eyes to be blinded to the things of God. What great news that is! God would be unjust to want everyone to receive salvation and not make salvation available. So the one who rejects Jesus is the one who cannot receive the things of God. Actually the Bible goes on to say that not only can he not receive them but that the things of God are foolishness to him. I Corinthians 2:14 lets us know that what comes from God is foolishness to the unsaved – those who after hearing the Gospel and having opportunity to believe – have rejected the finished work of Jesus Christ.

The message I am to communicate in this posting is that sharing the Gospel is the first thing that we should do with our friends and family who are unsaved. We shouldn’t expect them to live according to the Word of God when they don’t know who God is.
