If the ministry gifts bow we are in trouble . . .

Ephesians 4:11-13 New King James Version (NKJV)

11 And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers, 12 for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ, 13 till we all come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ;

I want to use this post to talk about ministry gifts and the influence of ministry gifts on the body of Christ. The verses of scripture above from Ephesians 4 teach us that God gave gifts to the church. He tells us in verse twelve what the gifts are for as they are to equip us (those who are saved) for the work of the ministry and for the building up of the body of Christ. We learn from verse eleven that there are apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors and teachers.

Let’s go back to the book of Daniel and the 4th Man series. In Daniel chapter 3 we see that the king built an idol and demanded that the people bow and worship it. If you follow through Daniel 3 you will see that the king called the leaders of the day and commanded that they bow. The leaders of the congregation are those who have influence in the congregation. How may of us do things because our church leadership says to do it? We follow our church leaders because we believe that they are being led of the Lord. Don’t get confused here. The same Holy Spirit that is in your church leader is in YOU to guide you into all truth, so if your church leader or ministry gift tells you to do something that is not supported by the Word of God, you need to take the Word to that person and ask for clarification. If the instruction is clearly opposite the Word you should not do it and consult God as to whether or not you are in the right fellowship.

If the ministry gifts or leadership bows to the false god, we are in trouble as their bowing increases the likelihood that the remainder of the congregation will follow if they are not hearers and doers of the Word of God.
