Should Christians consult horoscopes?

Many times we as Christians blur the lines with what is of God and what is not. What it boils down to is whether or not we choose to study and live by the Word of God and be led by the Holy Spirit, or if we choose to be carnal Christians and do neither of those things. A carnal Christian is one who confesses Christianity but does not renew his or her mind to the Word of God . . . does not study and live the Word and is not led by the Spirit of God. Actually, they may not even know the Spirit of God.  They go to church, sing in the choir, usher . . . may be on the trustee or deacon board, are faithful church members, but don’t seek after a closer relationship with God. Well, what does this have to do with horoscopes? It is all a matter of what you believe. Do you choose to believe what God says about you or do you choose to believe some sign somewhere? We have to be careful here because anything that is not of God is of the devil and we can end up in error if we spent time meditating on it. Let’s go to the Word here. Deuteronomy 18:10-14 teaches us that following sorcery, fortune tellers and the like is an abomination to the Lord. Well, why would that be? It is because you are putting other gods before God. So even if you post scripture on social media and talk about what a great time you had at church, when you start to seek out and search for fortunes, and astrology and the like, you are over in a place that is opposed to God. I decided to include this verse in the post as it may help someone.

Deuteronomy 18:10-14 ESV / 184 helpful votes

There shall not be found among you anyone who burns his son or his daughter as an offering, anyone who practices divination or tells fortunes or interprets omens, or a sorcerer or a charmer or a medium or a necromancer or one who inquires of the dead, for whoever does these things is an abomination to the Lord. And because of these abominations the Lord your God is driving them out before you. You shall be blameless before the Lord your God, for these nations, which you are about to dispossess, listen to fortune-tellers and to diviners. But as for you, the Lord your God has not allowed you to do this.

Now let’s go over to the new testament here and look at what our responsibility is concerning spirits, voices and the like. God have given us clear instruction concerning them. Let’s look at first John 4.

1 John 4:1 ESV / 91 helpful votes

Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world.

We are not supposed to believe every spirit; but we want to believe the spirit that tells us what we want to hear . . . or tells us something really good. Just like the fortune cookies when we go get Chinese food. But we are supposed to test the spirits to see if they are from God. There are false prophets in the world . . . people who will tell you stuff that is wrong and doesn’t line up with the Word of God or the plan of God for your life. Let me give you a practical example here. What if you horoscope tells you that you are supposed to be a business leader or manager or something . . . and you believe that and sell your house, uproot your kids from school, quit your job and move. That leading will open your life up to the enemy as you are now outside the will of God for your life as you didn’t try the spirit to see if it was from God. You see, God is a spirit and He speaks to us through our recreated human spirit and He will not say anything that is contrary to or goes against the Bible. That’s how you test the spirits. WITH THE WORD OF GOD. If it is completely opposite the Word, IT AINT GOD!!  OK, let me give you another practical example. The Bible teaches us to love our enemies. If you get the thought to key your bosses car or curse him out or leave the company because he made you mad . . . those thoughts didn’t come from God. God called you to love and gave you example of the fruit that you should be showing towards others – see Galatians 5:22.

Let’s look at another witness, and I am only mentioning a few scriptures here. There are several. You should search them out if you still are not sure of the position of God on this matter.

Jeremiah 29:8 ESV / 6 helpful votes

For thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: Do not let your prophets and your diviners who are among you deceive you, and do not listen to the dreams that they dream,

I want to point out here that Jeremiah says the prophets and diviners are AMONG YOU. They aren’t far off. They are among you. So study the Word, do the Word, live the Word and allow God to define you . . . He made you and He knows what He called you to do and be and the purpose that He has for your life.
