“Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; 20 you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body,” 1 Corinthians 6:19-20
Your body is where the Holy Spirit dwells. If you are born again, He lives INSIDE of your physical body. That means that you carry Him where you go and that you expose Him to everything you expose your physical body to . . . cigarette smoke, sexual immorality, high cholesterol and high sugar food and drinks . . . obesity and others. We have to be mindful of what we put in our bodies. We need them to be fit for the work that God has called us to do. Can you imaging having impairments in your body so that you can’t be a witness for Christ? Many of the things that happen to our bodies happen because of neglect and poor care. So many times we don’t eat right, exercise, protect our skin from the sun, etc. and our bodies start to wear out much sooner than they should and we go one to be with the Lord much sooner than He intended.
Let’s look at more of this scripture. It goes on to say that we are not our own, that we are bought with a price. That price was paid with the blood of Jesus. God was out of fellowship with man because of what Adam did in the garden of eden and He sent Jesus in the flesh to buy us back to Him. That’s even the more reason that we should take care of our physical temples. We have to honor God with our physical bodies.
