Teaching your kids how to manage money

With all that the world is teaching our kids . . . and the teaching to tests like FCAT and the like, we as parents have to equip our kids with the skills necessary to survive in this world. If you follow the prompting of the Holy Spirit, He will teach you what things to teach your kids and what you should expose them to and shield them from.

Well, where in the Word of God can you begin to teach your child about money? Let me suggest to you the book of Proverbs. Let’s look at Proverbs 24:3-4. It talks about a house being built with wisdom and established with understanding and all of the rooms of the house being filled with precious things. This verse of scripture does not talk of lack or poverty. Wisdom and understanding from God cannot produce poverty and lack. Jesus said in John 10:10 that He came that we might have the abundant life.  Abundance and a home being filled with precious riches is something that we should be thinking about not just for ourselves, but for our children.  Let’s go back to Proverbs 24 that we are talking about here. It talks about a house being built with wisdom. God said if any man lacks wisdom let him ask of God. Wisdom from God is what your children need to know for how to manage money  . . . so the money doesn’t manage them. If they yield to the enemy, he will tell them how to manage their money and will leave them financially destitute and in poverty and lack. They way to get your kids on the right track with finances is spend time with them teaching principles of sowing and reaping, giving and honoring God with their substance. Remember that if they seek God first and His righteousness all that they need will be provided for them.
