Back in December we posted about prior relationships and old flames coming back around . . . especially around the holidays . . . that may have been a concern with recent Valentine’s Day . . . the point that we made was that you will know a person has changed by the fruit that you see . . . and that is particularly, the fruit of the Spirit. Galatians 5:22 talks about the fruit . . . and you have to be saved to produce these fruit. They come through the Spirit of God, so if you are not saved and don’t have the Spirit of God, you don’t have the ability to produce these fruit in purity . . . the enemy is a liar and will tell you that you can, but you will only be able to produce counterfeit fruit and that fruit won’t remain.
Just because you forgive someone and can now converse with them . . . doesn’t mean that you need to be in a relationship with them. It’s amazing how when the apology comes . . . followed by forgiveness as the Bible describes, folks want to go back to being in a relationship. We’ll it doesn’t have to be that way. Just because you forgive and walk in God’s love with someone, doesn’t mean that you need to go back to being in a relationship with that person. Well, how do you know? This is where your relationship with God is so important. God knows the end from the beginning so He knows if this person has really changed and He can let you know if you stay attuned to Him and His word. Let’s look at some scripture here, so you can begin to walk this out . . . 2 Corinthians 6:14 teaches us to not be yoked with unbelievers . . . you can forgive and love and unbeliever, but that person is still an unbeliever so you shouldnt hook up with him or her! Pray for that person. Share Jesus with that person, but if he or she is not interested in accepting Christ, then you need to move on IN Christ. Philippians 4:7 teaches that God will give you peace to deal with missing that person because your trust is in God. Here is a second witness. Let’s look at Romans 12:2 that teaches you to renew your mind to the Word of God. Here are some things to look for in people who are renewing their mind . . . they study the scriptures . . . and DO them. They pray, they hang out with people who pray and are saved . . . they have yielded their lives to Christ and nothing and no one will stand between them and God . . . and yes that means you! Most of all you will see the fruit of the Spirit that we referenced in Galatians 5. I hope this is helpful. Send us an email at firstname.lastname@example.org or reply to this post.
