Why loved ones die

Death is a hard thing.  It seems to be so final and have such permanency. There are folks who are afraid to die and then there are folks who do things on purpose to play with death. I wanted to share what the Word of God says about death in hopes to give us a better understanding of why people have to die.

I’m sure many of you are familiar with Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. See the early chapters of Genesis. When Adam sinned death entered into the world. Before then, there was no death. See Romans 5:12 and the one man being referred to in this verse is Adam. Death of all things entered into the world when Adam and Eve were separated from God. . . that’s why pets die, trees die, grass dies, grandma and grandpa die . . . etc.

The bible teaches in 2 Corinthians 5:8 to be absent from the body is to be present with Christ . . . this is just for the believer (those who are saved). Death is a transition for those of us who are saved to be with God. That’s why Christians shouldnt mourn the dead like the world does; like there is no hope. Christians shouldn’t be afraid of dying.  We should die when we want to and not with one of the devil’s diseases.  God told Moses to die because his purpose in the earth had been fulfilled. Because of Moses’ disobedience in an area he was not permitted to go into the promised land (Deuteronomy 34:4-8).  Let’s look at 2 Timothy 4 starting at verse 7. That author here is saying that he has finished his course, he has run his race . . . what is he actually saying – “I have done what God called me to do and now it’s time for me to die”.  Read these verses carefully.  You should die when you finish the work God called you to and not a minute sooner. . . and guess what else, you can KNOW the work that He called you to and you can KNOW when you’ve completed it.

What about sickness? You’ve heard people say that you have to die from something. That’s not scripture. You don’t have to die with one of the enemy’s diseases. It’s not God’s will for folks to die from heart attacks, strokes, heart failure, etc. Sickness came on the scene as a result of Adam’s sin just like death did. It’s not God’s will for us to be sick. Isaiah 53:5 teaches that by the stripes of Jesus we are healed. This is another post in and of itself. Send me a note if you want further discussion in this area.

God is a Spirit and we are a spirit. We have a soul (mind, will and emotions) and we live in a body. This body is how we interact with the world. Our body has to die because of Adam’s sin and the born again believer goes to be with God. The unbeliever goes to eternal torment.  Death is an enemy of God and will be done away with.  Revelation 1:18 teaches us that Jesus has the keys of death and the grave. Don’t you have the keys of your car and your house . . . so you determine who drives your car and when and who enters your house.  Revelations 20:14 talks about death being thrown into the lake of fire.

Don’t fear death and don’t automatically blame God for it. God is not the killer and makes it plain in John 10:10 that the enemy comes to steal, kill and destroy.  God didn’t pluck someone up because He needed another angel. Don’t say that God is too wise to make a mistake in someone’s death because the enemy may have killed them.  He kills with sickness all of the time, and he uses other things too . . . Whitney Houston, Michael Jackson and Zachary Tims were destroyed by the enemy.  God wants you to have a long life. See Psalm 91:16. Jesus came that you might have and enjoy your life.  It’s ok to grieve over loved ones, but know that if they died in Christ, death has no power over them.
